 Lest We Forget ~~

In honour of ANZAC DAY - 25th of April
ANZAC was the name given to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey early on the morning of 25 April 1915 during the First World War (1914-1918).

As a result, one day in the year has involved the whole of Australia in solemn ceremonies of remembrance, gratitude and national pride for all our men and women who have fought and died in all wars. That day is ANZAC Day - 25 April.

The Rising Sun.
Commonwealth troops departing for the South African war in 1902 were provided with metal badges with a rising sun motif. In 1904, the rising sun design was developed to produce the famous general service badge for the Australian Army.

For more information on ANZAC DAY and the history of the Rising Sun Badge, try the links below to the ANZAC Day Commemoration  Committee and theAustralian War Memorial.

I have created this embroidery design of the Rising Sun Badge based on the original version of the badge worn on the hats of soldiers. There have been many versions but this is the first one used for the Australian Army.

This design I started years ago, when I first began digitizing. I have tweaked it a bit and am totally happy with how it turned out.

I think the colours, the playfulness and the different shapes that make up the letters to spell AUSTRALIA, really represent the feel of this awesome country.

The Australian Flag

With the Union Jack from England and the Southern Cross under which Australia lies; on a field of blue like water that surrounds her is the Flag of Australia.

  The Southern Cross

In the southern hemisphere, Australia lies beneath a group of stars known as The Southern Cross. Australia has adopted this celestial symbol and flies it on the national flag as well as alone in the traditional green and gold colours.

Aussie Boxing Kangaroo

This embroidery design depicts Boxing Kangaroo Jack , who has a been an Aussie Icon going back to the 1890's. It's image was painted on Australian Air Force planes in WW2.

Most folks think of kangaroos when they think about Australia. And NO.. they don't hop down city streets! Unless your city street is in the bush!! :-) I say the roo population is like the deer in Illinois or most of the midwest, if you live in a more rural area, or near the woods, you see more deer..

I just love this guy, makes a great embroidery design.. He's true blue Aussie!

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

The national call of Australian sport.

It's followed by the traditional response of

"Oi Oi Oi"

Don't ask.. just enjoy the passion! :-)

When sewing this embroidery design, you've got to use the Green and Gold colours.

They are the official colours of representative sport teams, like in the Olympic Games, Cricket, Rugby, Soccer.. etc
